Melbourne CBD – Kitchen and Bathroom

A busy professional couple tasked us with turning their outdated CBD apartment into their dream home. A complete renovation of the bathroom and kitchen was in order.

The clients love cooking and entertaining, so our brief for their new kitchen was to create a functional space where they could comfortably do both.

With a background in the performing arts, our client’s ideal kitchen needed to feel unique and reflect their creative flair. The inspiration for the design was drawn from the building’s original Art Deco heritage and then given a modern twist via the introduction of set design elements.

The clients fell in love with the bold blue powder-coated kitchen tap, which turned out to be the catalyst of the rest of the design, being referenced in the front of the melamine cabinetry on the island and the matching steel legs. We juxtaposed the vibrant blue elements with a soft, natural ply veneer for the rest of the cabinetry.

We designed a large island bench showcasing a natural plywood veneer and a sleek Caesarstone concrete benchtop. This is where the clients now prepare food, entertain, and debrief after a long day. The island has also introduced an abundance of storage into the kitchen now, which previously was missing.

Because the clients wanted a sleek space, we integrated the fridge and dishwasher, which also allowed us to maximise and heighten the beauty of the book-matched ply veneer.
