The owners of this stunning Edwardian home in Prahran tasked us with renovating their two bathrooms.
Our brief
For the main bathroom, it was essential for the clients that space was maximised and used efficiently, so a lot of thought went into creating a better layout.
A wall that leads to the outside (which they didn’t use) was the first thing we modified, so we could improve accessibility and flow. To make access and flow even better, we relocated the entry door to the middle of the room and the toilet to the side where the door was.
A feature that the clients disliked about their former bathroom was the shower over the bath. We created a dedicated area for each, with a free-standing bath for the girls to soak in.
The hero piece of the design is the vanity, with a beautiful marble benchtop lending itself toward the bath area. This visual continuity integrates both features, and it’s the first thing you notice upon entering the room.
For both the main bathroom and the ensuite, we used natural and organic materials to create a space that would feel tactile, beautiful, and calm. The client selected a gorgeous natural marble slab, which we paired with a real timber veneer and authentic terrazzo.
We used matte finishes, which are very soft and calming. To create interest, we contrasted them with a textural tile and the texture in the vein of the stone and the wood. We chose black to sharpen the softer elements and contribute to creating the desired contrast, to frame to a softer palette.
We integrated the lighting and the mirror to make it feel like furniture, adding to the room’s sophistication. The pendants at the end of the vanity provide a soft, warm glow that makes the bathroom feel very inviting.
